The devastating catastrophic events of 2004 and 2005 have highlighted the importance of understanding an insurer's exposure to catastrophic events. Although most insurance companies model their catastrophic exposures, many do not realise the scale of impact the quality of the data used could have on the output of their models.
At JLT Re, we work with clients to improve the quality of their analysis by ensuring proper coding of loss exposures and accurate mapping of locations, and determining which modelling tool to use in measuring catastrophe exposure. We strongly believe that all insured properties must be geocoded to a high level of detail, and that information must be verified on a timely basis. Our aim is to ensure that our clients utilise the latest modelling tools and that they aggregate their exposures accurately and consistently.
