Will the weather be 'naughty' or 'nice' for Santa on Christmas Eve? JLT Re Meteorologists give their forecast...
21 December 2017
- Santa warned that low pressure system west of the UK and north of Japan will reduce reindeer visibility.
- Despite weather disturbances, successful delivery of presents to all children across the globe is expected.
With only two days left until Santa sets starts his epic journey to deliver toys to children around the world, JLT Re’s meteorologists have been keeping a close eye on the worldwide weather conditions ahead of Christmas Eve.
JLT Re’s meteorologists provide real-time monitoring of global weather disturbances, and the team is closely watching for any adverse conditions that could affect Santa’s journey.
JLT Re meteorologist Brian Bastian said: ‘While the Arctic remains exceptionally warm for this time of year, Santa mustn’t be lulled into a false sense of security. Once he leaves his home on Christmas Eve, he’ll encounter unseasonably cold conditions across much of eastern Europe and Russia, as well as Canada and the central and midwestern US.
‘A low pressure system and accompanying cold front over the eastern US, as well as low pressure systems west of the UK and north of Japan will reduce Santa and the reindeer’s visibility. Santa may also see some patchy showers in portions of northern and eastern Australia as well as central South America, but otherwise the Southern Hemisphere looks clear. Finally, Santa can expect to encounter a tropical low pressure system situated in the north-central Pacific Ocean which will mean he may have to alter his sleigh flight patterns accordingly.
‘However the good news is that despite some weather disturbances, we’re confident that Santa and his reindeer will have a good run on Christmas Eve, and is definitely on track to get all his presents delivered on time for Christmas morning.’
